‘They’re Trying To Kill Us’: Billie Eilish and Chris Paul To Executive Produce Food Justice Doc
The follow up to the award-winning What The Health tackles the urgent issue of food injustice in America, where big businesses continue to profit from nutritional and environmental racism, diet related diseases, and animal cruelty.
An upcoming feature-length documentary from the creator of the award-winning What The Health will highlight how America’s broken food system is an urgent social justice issue.
They’re Trying To Kill Us looks through the lens of Hip Hop and urban culture to examine how the current food industry fuels nutritional and environmental racism.
The feature-length documentary aims to uncover the truth behind shocking statistics including how black Americans are two times more likely to die from diabetes compared to white Americans and also highlights issues of food access and food deserts, diet-related diseases, government corruption, and animal cruelty.
A-list stars and social justice advocates have gathered to support the film, including musician Billie Eillish and NBA star Chris Paul who are the film’s executive producers. And among the interviews featured in the documentary include talks with Maggie Q, Ne-Yo, Dr. Micheal Greger MD, and Tabitha Brown.
The film launches as awareness of food injustice is increasing in America, with politicians including Senator Cory Booker and newly-elected New York mayor Eric Adams campaigning on the issue. Booker recently became the first vegan appointed to the Senate Agriculture Committee, and also introduced the Farm System Reform Act bill, which seeks to ban factory farms.
And more black Americans are embracing plant-based food as a way to improve their health. In fact, black Americans are nearly three times more likely to be vegan than white Americans, according to recent polls. “For many black vegans the journey begins with a quest for a healthier lifestyle”, a BBC report found.
Now, following the mainstream success of What The Health on platforms like Netflix and YouTube, They’re Trying To Kill Us could help propel the issue of food injustice across the country, and around the world.
