The Singapore-based company, Next Gen Foods, has announced its plant-based chicken, TiNDLE, is now available at restaurants and online marketplaces across the United States.

Next Gen’s U.S. launch comes after the plant-based meat startup raised an unprecedented $100 million from investors, the largest single Series A deal in the sector to date, as the food industry continues to move towards more sustainable solutions.

"There's no question that the United States is home to some of the best food cities on the planet – and we're excited to bring TiNDLE to this market and hear what consumers think," said Andre Menezes, CEO and co-founder of Next Gen Foods. "The U.S. has long been a target market for us, and thanks to our lineup of fantastic investors who have participated in this funding round, this is only the beginning of our journey in delivering delicious and sustainable foods to reverse our climate crisis."

Following its two-part $30M seed last July, this latest investment brings Next Gen’s total funding to more than $130 million. The round was supported by new investors EDBI, Alpha JWC Ventures, and Sir Paul McCartney's MPL Ventures, as well as existing investors, including Temasek’s Asia Sustainable Foods Platform, GGV Capital, K3 Ventures, and Shanghai-based food tech VC Bits x Bites.

The company’s vegan chicken TiNDLE, debuted less than 18 months ago and is now available in over 200 restaurants across six cities, from Dubai to Amsterdam. With this latest funding round, Next Gen will work to accelerate distribution to key markets around the world, including the U.S.

“We seek companies that can separate themselves from the rest of the industry through technology, innovation and passion. Next Gen Foods’ growth in less than a year has been remarkable, as is their ongoing commitment to being part of the solution for how global food production will play a significant role in addressing the impact of climate change,” said Jenny Lee, managing partner at GGV Capital.

The TiNDLE plant-based chicken is free from cholesterol and genetically modified ingredients, and high in protein and fiber, according to Next Gen, and unlike the majority of animal-based chicken, it does not contain any antibiotics or hormones. On average, the plant-based chicken uses 74% less land, 88% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and 82% less water than its animal counterpart, Next Gen reports.
