Plant-based meat alternatives are changing the way we eat - and saving the lives of millions of animals every year.  

Now almost one in four Americans say they are cutting back on eating meat. That’s why the popularity of plant-based protein is continuing to soar, with sales reaching $946.6 million in 2019 - 10.2 percent higher than the previous year.

With so many tasty meat alternatives now on the market, here’s our guide to five of the most popular.

Beyond Meat 

Crafted from non-GMO, gluten-free pea protein, the famous “bloody” Beyond Burger will convince even the most ardent meat-eater, thanks to its incredibly realistic take on a beef patty. The Beyond Meat brand has gone from strength to strength, adding a plant-based ground meat and a plant-based pork-style sausage to its offerings. You can find their innovative products in supermarkets and restaurants, including TGI Fridays. 

MorningStar Farms 

The long-running veggie brand recently announced that its transitioning all of their products from vegetarian to vegan by 2021. So far, you can already buy the improved vegan versions of items like Buffalo Chik Patties, Buffalo Wings, and Chik’n Nuggets.

The brand have also just added a new line called “Incogmeato”, which features meaty, plant-based versions of burger patties, bratwurst, and Italian sausage. 

Gardein

Gardein’s impressive range of products has you covered for alternatives to chicken, turkey, beef and pork. The brand also offers delicious plant-based fish, including fishless fillets and even crabless cakes. 

Impossible Foods

Impossible’s meatless meat has proved hugely popular and can be found in many mainstream restaurants, including the likes of White Castle, The Cheesecake Factory, and Hard Rock Cafe. Their signature Impossible Burger has proven so popular across Burger King’s 7,000-plus restaurants, that the fast-food chain is now trialling Impossible Pork and Impossible Sausage too.
