Fast-food chains across the United States and around the world are racing to expand their menus and include plant-based options to meet the demands of a changing market and to stay relevant as consumer preferences evolve. As of this year nearly half the restaurants in the United States can cater to plant-based diners.

Some restaurants, however, have failed to meet the moment and are falling behind the competition when it comes to embracing alternative proteins.

Bojangles is one of the few hold-out, fast-food chains that still hasn’t added a plant-based main to their menu.

The fried-chicken, fast-food chain has over 800 restaurants across the United States with the majority located in Georgia and the Carolinas.

People in the Southern US suffer from disproportionately high rates of obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, all of which contribute to the leading causes of death nationally.

Now a growing segment of the population is looking to reduce their meat consumption to take back their health and vegan soul food is on the rise across the south.

Bojangles is missing a huge opportunity to hang on to customers who are going plant-based for their health and to attract a new group of consumers who want meat-free options.

With amazing plant-based chicken alternatives now available thanks to companies like Beyond and Impossible, Bojangles has nothing to lose by getting with the times and adding plant-based chicken to their menu.

Adding a plant-based option at Bojangles would be a huge win for vegans in the Southeastern US who deserve to have easy and affordable dining opportunities, it would save countless chickens from suffering, it would lower Bojangles’ carbon footprint, and it would provide a healthier option for long-time fans of the franchise.
